George Green Juniors was founded on June 5th 2015 with a meeting held at Harvey Memorial Recreation Ground in George Green.
Prior to this meeting certain criteria had to be met, namely somewhere to play and to have enough players to start a team. On searching for a ground to play at, Harvey Memorial Recreation Ground, looked after and run by Wexham Parish Council have a monthly meeting and Nikki Clarke (who went on to become Club Secretary), went to the meeting and sold the idea of the new club playing football there. The response from the Parish Council was warm and welcoming and an agreement was put in place. Next was getting enough players to join and training was taking place on a Friday evening led by Stephen Hale. With help from Rob Paris, Derek Hamiga, Bal Padda and along with players that had previously played under Stephen Hale, we reached the numbers required to play in season 2015/16 in the Thames Valley Football Development League.
On the Friday 5th June 2015 a meeting was held, started with the kids giving us their choice of name for the new club, and out of the hat came George Green Juniors Football Club, next was the kit and colours and the kit chosen by the kids was the Santos, red and black from Pendle. Next was the choice of committee, Nikki Madigan became club chairman, Nikki Clarke, Secretary, Sophie Rioult, treasurer with Sam Hood being our Welfare Officer and so the club was born. Donations came in. Goals were given to us by Langley Hornets, respect barriers given to us from the TVFDL, as well as a financial donation and a grill to help us raise money for home games by allowing us to sell hot food along with drinks at home games. The Parish Council fitted and electricity point and tap for water to allow us to do this. Our kit was sponsored by Herbies Pizza and also we were offered a training kit and this was sponsored by Fischer (innovative solutions).
We played our 1st friendly at Everham Leisure centre with the result being 3-2 in our favour. We then held a mini 4 team tournament on Sunday 6th September involving teams, Sandgate, Brook House and Chertsey. Our 1st fixture in the TVFDL was at home to Boyne Hill Panthers and the journey was complete. Or so we thought. In the 2016 season the club expanded to 7 teams for season 2016/17 with age groups, U7, U8, 2 x U12, U13 and 2 x U15. With the help of Wexham School the 3 older teams played their home fixtures there, with the 3 younger teams playing at Harvey Memorial Recreation Ground. As well as the new teams the club was pleased to announce at the AGM in 2016 that the club have been awarded FA Charter Standard as well as a grant from the Football Foundation, and has moved from strength to strength since!
